Caring for an island means caring for its future. Amigos da Ilha brings together residents and friends from around the world who share a deep commitment to preserving the island’s natural beauty, supporting local initiatives, and inspiring the next generation to protect the environment they call home.
Mission
The Association “Amigos da Ilha” (Friends of the Island) was established in 2020, and consists of European, British, South American as well as Brazilian members, all of whom pay a monthly fee, but work for free. One of the documented aims of this Association (which is legally registered as a non-profit organisation) is to protect the environment on the island.
Amigos da Ilha not only works autonomously but also offers support and finance to other groups with the same intentions, especially with local schoolchildren, and promotes environmental education to the many schools on the island.
